Created in October 2021 by a programmer named Josh Wardle, the game “wordle” has taken the world by storm. The goal of the game is to guess the 5 letter word of the day within 6 tries. The game is enjoyable for people of all ages, students, teachers, parents, etc. Sophomore Coria Chaloupecky said, “because it is fun, and it gives me something to do.” That is the reason she plays wordle.
The game really started to take off recently during the wintertime and holiday season. According to an article by Mike Snider, a member of USA Today wrote, “Wordle’s playing audience skyrocketed from only 90 on Nov. 1 to 2 million by mid-January.” Its popularity also started trending with all the posts and tweets social media users have been posting.
The game is also trending in hallways of Waukee High School, many students play the game and those who don’t wish they did. When asked if she plays wordle, Junior Saanvi Lukka said, “no but I really want to, I heard it is fun, I just do not have the time” it is very obvious to the majority of people that this game is addicting.
There is also a hand full of spin-off games to “Wordle”. For example, the game “Byrdle” is the same game as “Wordle” except all the words are choral music-themed. Another game worth playing is “Nerdle”. The only difference between “Nerdle” and “Wordle” is that instead of letters, “Nerdle” uses numbers.
The game “Wordle” has taken the world by storm and continues to grow more and more popular by the minute. With all the stress and hardships life throws at people it is easy to forget to let loose and have fun. Wordle is a good way to test your mind and relieve stress, and it is Waukee High School student approved.
