Before many students had charged their laptops or picked their first day of school outfits, Publications editors were already planning the year and preparing to hand out 650 yearbooks.
One major accomplishment was the completion of the 2021-22 yearbook, which is themed “a year in notes” and harkens back to a time before laptops and Canvas. “It’s an homage to how we used to use notebooks,” said yearbook editor Ritika Shroff. Students should feel free to add their own illustrations and signatures to complement the pages designed by Publications staffers. Shroff, a senior, added that each book will include a sticker sheet
In addition to the yearbook, magazine editor Hala White is eager for the WHS community to read the first edition of the newly redesigned ‘Kee Scroll. “The stories will connect back to our readers,” White, a junior, said. “It will be more colorful and photo-heavy.”
The publications website, The Arrowhead, will continue to feature breaking news, reviews, features, and opinion articles, as well as photo galleries. Web editor Raahim Ali, a junior, has already trained the new staffers on Adobe software to create original graphics to illustrate their stories.
This year, WHS students can expect more exclusive photo coverage of events, said junior photo editor Alex Siegle. Siegle, who also manages the Instagram account @waukee_arrowhead, said the social media account will be a way to “inform and get more people involved in publications.”
