On the 4th of March, from 6-9 pm at the APEX Center, there will be a party called the Marathon of Dance that goes towards the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital to help against childhood cancer, and it only costs 15 dollars. Of course, even if you can not be at the dance you can still help the cause by donating through the QR code on the posters around the school. Some other ways you can help the cause are by participating in the spare change event. Against the ways we usually are with the Northwest wolves”,” this event is a crossover between the two schools as it takes more than one school to affect this cause. Throughout the night guests, there will be morale activities like trivia, 9 square, and bingo but there will also be stories from people affected by the cause. When the Junior body president, and a member of the student council”, Tony Wei was asked how much money did the coin drive earn he said,” I am unsure as it is still going on but after week 2 and we were a bit over 1,000, so I think our margin is a bit over 2,000.” As much as money may be an important part of charity money doesn’t mean anything if the students don’t have a way to connect to it. The dance is important to the students at this school, Tony explains. it’s a great event for students at this school and it also raises awareness for children with cancer for not people around us but people who are impacted by it all the proceeds go to Steadfast hospital in Iowa City where in 29 years they have raised 33 million dollars and were raising more for them.”Tony explains that organizing the fundraiser was not as easy as people think, but that it happened through the Iowa City Dance Organization reaching out to Waukees’ student council. Iowa City reached out to us, and we saw the one that Valley held last year, and this year the Iowa City Dance Marathon reached out to us, and they ran us through it and got us to do it.” As much as money is always a goal there are always other goals that are not based on the green in people’s pockets. Tony explains how the goals for the event are to raise awareness and get the schools together with something less like the winter formal and more casual and with fun activities’ As much as goals are important”,” a goal is only successful if the students are involved in the party. When asked how you get involved, he said, “they can buy tickets and show up, we have tickets in the student council Instagram bio and we have a place for donations there also.” After they get involved, what should they get in return? Participants can expect games like nine square to like a minute to win a game, Chick-Fil-A walks (is like musical chairs, but there is a spot for everyone, and when the music stops you stand on a number, and we will randomly call out a number and if you are standing on the number you get a chick fil a gift card), and free food. There will also be opportunities to win things, and of course, there will be time to dance and more. As much as having fun is important, the way the student council got to their choice of what games should be played at the event. When asked how the activities were decided he answered, “We kinda just brainstormed like what kinda activities would students enjoy.” As much as activities are important at an event the soundtrack they are played to is just as important, and when asked what’s the music setup he said, “A lot of different types of music to get people dancing but a lot of pop culture music as well.” In conclusion, the marathon dance event is going to be a fun time for a good cause to be a part of.
