Temperatures are dropping by the day and green leaves are shifting into beautiful reds and oranges, which means only one thing—fall is approaching. Fall—sometimes called autumn—typically starts in late September and ends in December. It’s a beautiful season that’s full of vibrant colors and holidays such as Halloween and Thanksgiving.
Many people love the season for the cooler weather, stunning nature, and fun holidays. Some might even say this is their favorite season of the year. For example, A junior at Waukee High School, Qamar Hatem says “Fall is my favorite season because it’s not too cold or too hot, it’s just perfect pretty weather.”
Some people don’t share the same opinions at this time of year. Waukee junior, Ella Makohoniuk, points out the negatives of the season, stating, “I think fall is a beautiful season, but it isn’t my favorite. In my opinion, it’s way too cold and I don’t like how it starts getting dark earlier.”
While people don’t always share the same opinion on whether or not fall is their favorite season, there is no denying that there are many fun activities to participate in during this time of year. Some of those activities include pumpkin carving, apple picking, and hay rides. Many Waukee students love celebrating these activities throughout the season. One junior at WHS, Noelle Determan, admits, “I love going to pumpkin patches and haunted houses with my friends and family”.
Another junior at WHS, Eva O’neill, says she loves to fall. She shares what she’s looking forward to, saying, “I’m excited for the [halloween] parties and the Starbucks fall drinks.” Fall activities bring people together, and they’re an entertaining way to celebrate this beautiful season.
Fall weather is crisp and cool—perfect for cozy sweaters and warm drinks. People typically love fall weather, as it’s a nice break from the hot Iowa summer. Junior Taffy Sindlinger has something to say about the weather. She states, “I like fall weather because it’s nice weather and you don’t always need a coat.” Another junior, Yousif Kamal Sage Hadi, agrees. He says, “I like the cooler fall weather because it’s not too cold or too hot, it’s just right in the middle.”Students here at Waukee are excited for autumn to begin. They’re all looking forward to the fun holidays, festive decorations, and exciting activities that come along with this season. What are you excited about this fall season?
