Mom and Dad are “sick” and you have to feed them, by throwing food down in the basement…they get hungrier each night. ‘Monsters’ is what you call them, the thing in the basement. You have no idea what is down in the basement.
“It’s not me, It’s my Basement” is an indie horror game with one ending but many different dialogue parts to it. It takes place in a small village, Blackwood, and is about the main character Embry Oliver having to take care of the monsters in their basement that ate their parents four months ago. They are only 12 years old and have to take care of themself at such a young age.
Embry runs out of food quickly because of the monsters; they can hardly eat because the monsters are getting hungrier by the day. They have to go to the market almost every other week. One day when they arrive there, one of the market people says there’s a doctor for her to meet: Dr. D’Light.
Fast forward to when Embry and Dr. D’Light meet: he is escorted to Embry’s house to “check up” on them and their parents. He then discovers the door to the basement. Embry tells him not to go in there, and the doctor is concerned that the parents are down in the basement. They do their best to hold onto D’Light’s hand and kept telling him not to go down there. He resists and falls out of Embry’s grasp, leading to accidental murder and he falls down the stairs, getting eaten by “The Monsters”.
When I played the game I thought it was just a cute game at first but then I saw what had happened to the main character’s parents and I thought to myself, “Oh, well this just got interesting.”
When I continued to play the game I started to enjoy it more because I’m into these types of games. Horror, RPG, and storyline games so it was right up my alley.
Embry then decides once and for all to go down to see what’s down in the basement. They don’t know what the monster looks like themselves. Many, many stairs later when they get to the bottom they see what looks like, themself. The monsters are revealed to look exactly like Embry, which Embry is mortified by.
Overall, a very fun and adventurous game to play. I absolutely loved playing it and knowing what went through Embry Oliver’s life when “The Monster” appeared in their life. The game should take about 30 minutes to an hour to play.
