Once Upon a Flop

The new Snow White movie has been nothing but a disaster for Disney, with Disney estimated to lose around 115 million dollars on the new live-action movie. Riddled with controversy and drama such as the fact that the main cast members don’t even like each other. And all over social media people have been targeting actor Racheal Zegler or actor Gal Gadot. With all of this Disney has decided to attempt to sweep this under the rug. 

Star Racheal Zegler has been under the spotlight for the past few weeks, and not for a good reason. Clips of her on social media have been circulating from interviews calling the original Snow White movie weird. Fans of the Original 1937 movie were not happy about the way Zegler seemed to be treating the original movie especially because she was playing the lead Snow White, who is loved by many. Others however had a problem with Zegler’s skin tone saying the Hispanic actor was too dark to play the princess pointing out that the original Grimm brother’s story described Snow White’s skin color as white as snow. 

However, people have also had issues with Gal Gadot, Zeglers co-star who plays the evil queen. Netizens – (People who are avid users of the internet) criticized Gadot’s actions. One netizen described Gadot as having a monotone voice when acting. Other Netizens questioned how Gadot even got the role. Kerry Kadel from Flyer News said, “Gadot’s performance as the evil queen truly is unemotional,” In an article reviewing the Snow white movie.

One big controversy that was debated was whether or not to have little people play the seven dwarfs from the original Snow White. One person who was against the idea of having little people play dwarfs was Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage which he called a “backward story” in response to this Disney sent out a statement saying, “To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community.” In the end, Disney decided to have the seven dwarfs be fully animated CGI and instead of dwarfs they are referred to as mythical creatures. However when moviegoers saw the mythical creatures there was immediate backlash. One netizen said, “The CGI looks rushed and unfinished.” Another one called the magical creatures “scary and uncanny”.

However, one thing that made the press worse for the upcoming movie was that co-actors Gadot and Zegler clashed on and off set. Gadot and Zegler have clashing political ideas with Gadot having a pro-Israel stance being an Israeli Jewish actor who served 2 years in the Israeli Defense Force. While Zegler has a pro-Palstinian stance and has shared her views on social media. 

Ultimately the new live-action snow white movie has been nothing but a flop for Disney with a rating of 1.6 on IMDB and is riddled with nothing but controversies, which led Disney to scale back their premier for the movie. Snow White has become one of Disney’s worst-rated live-action movies, with critics doing nothing but dragging the movie. Wendy Ide from the Guardian called the movie “one of the ugliest things I have ever seen. It has the look of an AI-created migraine.” Because of this major flop that is the new snow white movie it is rumored that this might be the last live-action remake Disney will make, which is hopefully so.
