Senior Assassin: Who Will Come Out on Top

Senior Assassin is a fun game that many high schools participate in. Most of the time it is managed by someone not affiliated with the actual school district. At Waukee High School, an account under the name “keeasassins” manages the game anonymously. This event has been
occurring for the past couple years and on social media online. This trend has been occurring at numerous schools across the country as well. The rules are simple, Students are assigned someone to eliminate with a water gun. If a student has eliminated another, then they take on their target. There have been numerous add-ons to the game like rounds where you have to wear goggles or go barefoot to be in the safe. Challenges that force students to try new strategies and adapt to their surroundings.
There have been many hilarious moments to come out of the game. Kenda Kago, when asked about a funny fail, replied, “Tried ambushing my friend and fell out of a tree.” Moments like these make the game memorable. Many students participate in this as seniors as a tradition
before being sent off from high school. The principal has had to send out messages reminding students not to target people when on school grounds or during school activities like right before prom. It has been voiced that students do not get violent or violate each other’s property during the game. The main goal is to bring together students and inspire them to be creative and have fun.
When asked about another funny moment Tanner Lehtinen commented, “I tried to get the person who got me out, and he just barely got away. It was funny because he only escaped because one of his friends pointed out my car.” The account that runs the event posts the students that have caught each other and the video as proof of an elimination. Players can look at who has been eliminated from there. Lucy Matlock shares her experience and how it makes her feel, saying, “The game is very stressful when I consider that I’m being targeted by someone else. It makes traveling and hanging out outside of school very scary. However, it is mostly a lot of fun and I enjoy seeing the videos of other people getting their targets because it reminds me of the people that I might have forgotten about over my high school years. I enjoy seeing where old friends are now. The best part about it is that it doesn’t disrupt class.” While Senior Assassin can be chaotic, this opportunity lets students reconnect with others who they haven’t interacted with for a long time. The goal is to bring together the school and have some playful fun. Making sure that everyone stays safe while playing the game while continuing the tradition.
